This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts and pathophysiology of common diseases of the ANS, as well as the pharmacology and medicinal chemistry as applied to medications that act on the peripheral and central nervous systems and neuromuscular junction. Included are basic principles of drug action and the chemical properties, primary pharmacological actions, mechanisms of drug action, routes of administration, disposition, contraindications, adverse reactions, clinically significant drug interactions, and drug-disease interactions of drugs used to treat autonomic and nervous system disorders.
