This course centers on over-the-counter medications, herbals/dietary supplements and durable medical supplies commonly encountered in the practice of pharmacy. Students will gain an understanding of: Brand/generic formulations, categories of OTC medicines/devices, advertising strategies employed by pharmaceutical companies, how to read/interpret OTC labels, laws regarding OTCs, when to treat and when to refer along with patient/caregiver communication. The course also includes simulated patient assessment, counseling and workshop.
